Safety is not simply a measure of injury rates or compliance. It is a reflection of our culture, the choices we make every day, and the value we place on every employee, contractor and visitor who works on our behalf. Our goal is straightforward: everyone goes home safe.
A Note from our General Manager
Safety Comes First. Every Day.
At Malteurop North America, nothing matters more than making sure every person who works with us goes home safely at the end of the day. This applies to our team members in our malting plants, our offices, in the field, and to the contractors, drivers, farmers, and visitors who come through our doors.
Malting is hands-on work. Our people handle grain, operate heavy equipment, work in confined spaces and at heights, and manage the heat, dust, and moving parts that come with turning barley into malt. We respect these risks, and we take them seriously. Safety is not a slogan or a box to check. It is how we work.
That commitment is built into our CARE program, which has guided how we think about safety across Malteurop for nearly a decade. CARE helps every employee understand the risks in their work and build safer habits, with a strong focus on the hazards that could cause the most serious harm. Our goal is clear: zero accidents.
A strong safety culture is built by people, not by policies alone. It starts with the belief that every workplace accident is 100% preventable. It comes to life through every employee, from a new operator to our leadership team, having the right and the responsibility to stop work when something doesn't look right. We want people to speak up about hazards, near misses, and ideas for doing things better, and we commit to listening and acting on what we hear. When something goes wrong, we focus on learning and fixing the root cause, not on assigning blame.
One of the ways we keep that conversation going is through regular Safety Pauses. These are site-wide meetings where our teams step back from daily work to review safety results, share what is working, and agree on next steps together.
We invest in training, equipment, and procedures across all of our sites. We also hold ourselves accountable by sharing lessons from one plant to the next, so that an improvement in one location makes every location safer.
Our customers trust us to deliver quality malt for their beer, bourbon, and food. That trust starts with how we treat our own people. A safe operation is a reliable operation, and keeping our people safe is the foundation for everything else we do.

Our Safety Commitments

Since 2018 we have decreased our recordable incidents by 90%. That progress was earned through shared rules, safety routines, stronger governance and greater manager engagement.
But progress cannot lead to complacency. Safety can never become routine or be treated as a program that is finished. Each day brings changing conditions, different tasks and new decisions. Our responsibility is to continue strengthening the systems and behaviors that prevent serious injuries and fatalities.
